Since I became a mom I’ve been discovering the artisan who lives in me! With the birth of my first child, I started to get very excited about DIY projects for children that I see on the internet and every now and then I try some.

Like every beginner, I have been opting for uncomplicated ideas that can be made from cheap, easy-to-find materials.

Searching through Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube, it’s super easy to find step by step and inspirations to start your first project.

My idea is to always have fun and distract myself while doing something that my son is going to like a lot (at least I hope so), so my tip is to do your projects on a free day, so there is no hurry and the process can be relaxing.

Choosing a well-lit environment is a good option to not get lost in the details.

I, particularly, like things done with our own hands, I think it adds sentimental value to any gift, after all who is the person who does not like something made especially for her?

So, to encourage you to start your DIY out there too, I selected five ideas that I did (or intend to do) here.

Put the laziness aside and scroll down the bar to see some very easy! 😉

Felt Dolls In The Box

This is one of my favorite projects for one reason: Cutie! The materials needed to make it are basically felt, threads, needle, fiber for filler and a little box. In this example they used a metal box, which I think is charming because it gives a vintage touch to the toy, but you can use a cardboard one as well (in this case it is worth covering the box ith paper or fabric to make it look prettier).

For those who already know how to work with felt, you can look for free molds on Pinterest or buy the mold exactly like the example here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/92689817/wee-mouse-tin-house-pdf-pattern.

For those who never worked with felt before, I guarantee you it’s not difficult! Start searching on YouTube for ‘felt for beginners’ and enjoy! =)

Cardboard Houses

Cardboard boxes, papers with beautiful patterns and creativity are basically the items needed to make these adorable little houses that are so beautiful that makes me want to live in one of them! The step by step is very intuitive. Link for the DIY, here: https://abeautifulmess.com/2013/01/diy-playhouses.html.

Cardboard Rockets

Following the same scheme of the houses, cardboard and creativity are the main requirements to perform this ‘do it yourself’. Investing in details and choosing a cool color palette will make the project even more beautiful. See the steps, here: http://www.hellobee.com/2013/08/21/diy-cardboard-rockets/.

Cute Slingshots

I’ve never seen slingshots that cute! Since it needs more complex materials to be made (and maybe you don’t manage to buy it in little quantity), it’s better try it in a mass production to give to your children, nephews, and friends on dates such as Christmas. Finger Puppets

All these little pets need to make a living is one printer, paper and glue. Yes, they have a printable version, it’s just print, fold in the marking spots and paste! They are great for playing theater and stimulating the little one’s imagination of the little ones. Link to print templates: http://www.mrprintables.com/farm-animal-finger-puppets.html.

Bonus!

This wooden car is my DIY dream! I never tried because of: Lack of skill and daring. However, for the talented ones, here’s a challenge. A Beautiful Mess girls explain how to make it, here: https://abeautifulmess.com/2018/04/wooden-ride-on-car-diy.html.

I hope you enjoyed and feel inspired! If you do any of these projects, don’t forget to tag us at @fashionkids or use the hashtag #fashionkids to show us!
